Station 71 Member of the Month Spotlight!!

Each month we will highlight one of our many members, so that you, our community, can learn a little more about those protecting and serving your family and our community.

We have many different membership types and this spotlight will focus on all positions!

This month's “Member of the Month Spotlight” focuses on one of the younger members of our 71 family……. VALENCIYA WILEY!

This month’s spotlight is shining on one of our junior firefighters, Valenciya Wiley! Valenciya has been with our fire company for almost a year. She decided to dive into emergency services because she wanted to try something different and something out of her comfort zone that would get her out of her shell.  She also would like to discover and open as many doors as possible for her and while seeing what’s available along the way to find what really interests her. She already knows that she would like to pursue becoming an EMT!

Over this past year, she successfully attended Mods 1-3 in the Firefighting Essentials course. Valenciya has discovered so many different options and avenues for her to explore! She especially enjoys ropes and knots classes and training sessions! This is her favorite area of training, so far. She expresses how much she appreciates and is intrigued with all of the info she can get thrown her way! During training nights, she is put at ease with learning and knowing that she doesn’t have to worry about anything else happening outside of the training and can focus on the task at hand. She is especially thankful for the members who take the time with her, listen, and show her how to complete different tasks.

Her favorite area though, is fire prevention! She glows when she talks about how much fun it is, and how rewarding it is, especially seeing the little kids getting so much enjoyment out it and being so excited when they arrive.

She is currently enrolled in vo-tech for teaching and daycare, where she is set to graduate in 2027. She stated that she “LOVES working with kids and could be with them all day.” This was another reason she joined the fire prevention team!

Outside of the fire company, this intelligent, charismatic, sweet, and caring young woman refers to herself as a bookwork. She has a passion for reading and could sit for hours doing so. She is the oldest of her siblings, having four younger ones to keep her busy! She also has two dogs, two cats, and a guinea pig!
